Dogora, a jellyfish-like organism from space, is going after Earth's carbon, in a story that pulls more from cosmic terror, H.P. Lovecraft, and H.G. Wells than the typical Japanese atomic monster movie. Personally, that originality elevates it among Toho's kaiju films and I consider Dogora my third favourite kaiju after Godzilla and Mothra.

1 Bio 2 History 2.1 1964 3 Abilities/Aspects 3.1 Weakness: Living deep in the far reaches of space are single-celled organisms resembling jellyfish called Dogora. It is unknown where they truly originated from, but it's believed that they inhabit many corners of the universe. Dogora displays no amount of intelligence, only reacting to stimuli. Chief among these is its appetite for concentrations of carbon. The space monster did, however, attack a bridge during a JSDF assault, so it is possible to irritate the monster, though it displays no ability to recognize its attackers and simply reacts blindly. A single-celled organism living in Earth's atmosphere, Dogora was mutated after coming into contact with a radiation pocket over Japan. The creature began destroying satellites before descending to Earth to feed on sources of carbon, primarily diamonds and coal. Dogora grew at an accelerated rate However, Dogora survived the high heat, which may have actually caused it to grow as fragments of its body attached to and shielded Mir, preventing the satellite from being totally incinerated.
